What does this subject involve?
This qualification is designed for 14–16 year olds who want to learn about sports coaching, officiating or organising sporting events in a practical setting that helps them develop the knowledge, skills and experience that could open the door to a career in the industry.
Why should I choose this subject?
If you enjoy taking part in sport and PPE lessons and consistently demonstrate an A2L of grades 1 or 2 in PPE then this is the course for you. You should enjoy participating in sport and physical activity and have a keen interest in the theory that underpins the practical aspects of this course. The sports industry has become one of the highest grossing industries in recent years. The course will provide a variety of opportunities in participating, leading and officiating sport and physical activity.
What skills will I need to succeed in this subject?
The technical award in sport is a demanding course that requires an interest in participating in sporting activities, officiating or organising sporting events in a practical setting. The course will develop a wide range of practical sporting skills incorporating agility, balance, coordination, reaction and timing. You will need to understand the technical and tactical demands of the sports you choose to study in addition to developing a variety of transferable skills such as self-appraisal, evaluation, leadership, communication, decision making and problem solving. You will have an increased awareness of the positive effects of physical activity on the general health and wellbeing of individuals as a result of completing this qualification.
Where could this subject take me in the future?
This Level 1/2 Technical Award in Sport complements vocational qualifications including Health and Social Care, IT, Fitness Training and Performing Arts. It's also a great partner for GCSE PE, Biology, Psychology, Sociology, Maths and English Language. Upon completion, you can progress to Technical Certificates and other Level 3 vocational qualifications such as BTEC National Diploma in Sports and A-levels.
