Inspiring and connecting through the power of music
‘Our Music Sets Us Free’ was the theme of a celebratory event organised by verd de gris, a charity who work with people across all sections of communities to bring them together by enabling them to express their emotions through art, dance and music.
The event took place in our Great Hall and was attended by over 120 guests, including the Mayor of Calderdale, Councillor Howard Blagbrough.
Performances were given by a group who attend weekly sessions for people suffering from Parkinsons’s disease, Czech and Roma students from Calderdale College and pupils of Northowram Primary School who have connected to one another through the verd de gris project.
The theme was about inspiring and connecting through the power of music. The idea behind this comes from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people (whether real or imagined). Participants were to encouraged to empathise and connect emotionally with people from a different cultural tradition, as well as explore and learn more about their own rich heritage. A truly inspiring event.
