British Science Week at The Halifax Academy
The annual British Science Week was another fantastic success at The Halifax Academy and saw the students enthused by many exciting activities, such as lunchtime sessions exploring dissection, the Van de-Graaf generator and the Whizz-bang Chemistry lab.
Students in Year 8 and Year 9 enjoyed were inspired by a fantastic live and interactive physics demonstration delivered by Mick Rolley of the Institute of Physics. The ‘Ever Wondered Why?’ session covered many fascinating areas of physics including space, light and optical illusions, combustion, speed and the properties of different chemical elements, all illustrated by colourful and noisy real-life examples of physics in action which kept the students on the edge of their seats. The pupils were very keen to get involved, fighting to be picked by Mr Rolley.
The ‘Ever Wondered Why?’ roadshow is delivered by the Stimulating Physics Network and is designed to enthuse students about physics and the world around them.
There were also opportunities to win prizes by entering the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) careers poster competition and the science quiz.
