Welcome from the Executive Headteacher
I am very proud, as CEO of Impact Education MAT, to welcome you to the website of The Halifax Academy. This is a good academy that is on a rapid journey of improvement. It is also the first all-through school in Calderdale, offering education for children aged 4 to 16. We place great emphasis on having the highest aspirations and being respectful to others. Those high expectations are reflected in the progress students make during their time at the academy. We have been identified as being one of the highest performing schools both in the local authority and nationally with regard to progress, particularly in English and Mathematics.
It is vitally important that students are well prepared for success in life in terms of exam results and outcomes, but success and happiness are about much more and we are proud of the work that both staff and students put in, over and above everyday lessons and learning, to develop confidence, creativity, resilience, problem-solving and many other life skills.
Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development
Each year we strive to offer our students a range of enriching and valuable experiences to support their spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development. Church and mosque visits, trips abroad, fundraising, musical performances, interview skills training and university visits are just some of the additional experiences that students have taken part in to increase understanding and appreciation of different people, beliefs, cultures and the wider world. Our SMSC themed days, whereby students focus on respect, tolerance, fairness, safety and caring for others, are highly successful and valued by both students and staff.
Our values of Heart, Mind and Communication are strongly linked to British Values and our pride theme encourages students to take responsibility for themselves and their learning:
. Pride in your learning and work
. Pride in your uniform
. Pride in your academy
. Pride in your community
To ensure we build on our recent successes and deliver a sustainable future, important leadership changes have taken place this year at the academy: Deputy Headteacher at The Halifax Academy, Matt Perry, has been appointed as Headteacher of Secondary Phase, taking up the post from June 2018. This follows Richard Shaw’s appointment to the Head of Primary Phase in April. I have moved to Chief Executive Officer of Impact Education MAT and Executive Headteacher at The Halifax Academy.
We are extremely proud of our Primary Phase, which is led by Mr Richard Shaw. Our Primary Phase opened in September 2014 and we are now in Year 3. We would love to show you around our school, especially if you are considering it for one of your children. Please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange a time to visit, by contacting Mrs Liz Leonard, on 01422 430480.
I would like to thank all of our students, staff and parents for their continued hard work and commitment which will enable further success and achievement in the coming months.
